Today's Thought

"They're not particular about whether you're playing a flatted fifth or a ruptured 129th as long as they can dance to it."

"Where in the World Were We?!"
The "Dizzy Gillespie Jazz School of Music"
Bassano Del Grappa, Italy
In 1983, jazz vocalist Lillian Terry founded (along with Dizzy), the "Dizzy Gillespie Jazz School of Music" in the unlikely small mountain town of Bassano del Grappa, Italy. In 1987, celebrating Gillespie's 70th birthday, the school inaugurated a section dedicated to blind students and also brought jazz saxophonist, David Sanborn & band to perform in the school's celebration. Unfortunately, the school closed its activities in 1996 (three years after Dizzy's passing away). It was Italy's only jazz school founded by and named after an American jazz icon.
