Concert History Tour - Part 14
As many of you have probably heard by now, yesterday the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles (home arena for the World Champion Lakers), officially announced that they will host a Michael Jackson Memorial this coming Tues. The Center will issue only 17,500 tickets (it was built to hold 20,000). To be fair to Michael's many fans, they have asked everyone interested in attending to first register on their website lottery. In the first two hours they received a half of million "hits" which crashed their servers! The Center will randomly pick the 17,500 fans (who will be allowed to attend) from the one and a half million fans who have already registered. The LAPD and CNN are both warning, not to go there if your don't have tickets. (Since this announcement, many Jackson fans have been lined-up and camped out at Staples Center, thinking that tickets will become available there.) There is huge concern that Los Angeles could become totally grid-locked if all of Michael's fans showed up on Tuesday. Downtown traffic and parking would obviously be a major nightmare. To help prevent "scalping", Staples Center will issue wrist bands upon entry, instead of hard tickets. CNN will carry the event live, so if you can't get tickets, you can stay home and watch it on TV (12:00 noon on Tues.) Rising Stardom has already registered in the lottery and if we are lucky enough to get picked we will attend and report our experiences and post photos on Wed. This event will be Los Angeles' farewell tribute to the King of Pop and a huge moment in musical history.
